A Class Action Law Suit for Canadians Who Eat Chocolate

It was reported today that a class-action lawsuit was filed in Canada against several Canadian chocolate makers, alleging a conspiracy to fix prices.

The suit names the Canadian divisions of four major chocolate manufacturers - Nestle, Hershey, Cadbury, and Mars. The class action includes all residents of Canada who have consumed chocolate products since February 2004.  Those who know me know that I am included in the class (although, this was the first I heard of any class action law suit).

It alleges the companies conspired to inflate prices by five per cent or more on at least three occasions.

The report does not indicate whether the class action law suit was filed on Valentines Day, but it is likely that many Canadians consumed chocolate last week.  I know I did.

It is important to note that there were and have been Canadian Competition Bureau developments in 2007-2008 relating to similar allegations.
