Couterfeit Aircraft Parts?

Relying on the authority of the 1950 Defense Production Act, the Dept. of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security has been asked by the Naval Air Command to assess the scope and impact of counterfeit electronics on U.S. supply chain integrity, defense readiness and industrial capabilities.

It is expected BIS will focus on quantifying the extent of reported counterfeits; documenting government and industry business practices; and identifying best practices to prevent the introduction of counterfeit products into the critical supply chain.

Original component manufacturers, circuit board assemblers, electronic component distributors and brokers and defense prime contractors and subcontractors will be involved in the assessment. The depots, arsenals and procurement operations of the Dept. of Defense will also be reviewed.
