It's About Time!

At recent speeches, Customs management personnel have made clear the current priorities are agriculture; textiles; intellectual property rights, especially counterfeit pharmaceuticals and pirated goods; penalties; antidumping, especially incorrect rates and steps taken to evade dumping duties; free trade agreement compliance; importer identity theft; fraudulent powers of attorney; and trade with China.

What is at least mildly interesting is this listing does not directly mention product safety, although it falls under the rubric of intellectual property rights. Even more interesting is other than a passing mention about the Importer Security Filing taking effect, little was said about cargo security. Perhaps CBP has finally gotten to the point where it will actually be able to balance security and facilitation. Could we ask for anything more?
