Canada and Saudi Arabia May Be Discussing Foreign Investment Promotion & Protection Agreement
Arab news is reporting that Canada's International Trade Minister discussed negotiations of a Canada-Saudi Arabia Foreign Investment Promotion & Protection Agreement (like a bilateral investment treaty) during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia (October 13, 2010). The article mentions that discussions concerning a Canada-Saudi Arabia FIPPA commenced in 2008 and “we expect to host a further round of discussions by the end of 2010.” The interesting thing is that there isn't anything about a Canada-Saudi Arabia FIPPA on the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade web-site. As a result, the rumours cannot be confirmed.
